The authors move beyond a descriptive-historical approach to Old Testament commentary, and examine the text in the light of what it has to say theologically, as the Word of God needing to be expounded from the pulpit. Recognizing also the need to transcend the parochialism of Western civilization, the authors are sensitive to issues which are the special problems of those who live outside the 'Christian' West.
