The author even avoids the standard terminology, such as structure and outline (he speaks of design and sketch in his effort to demonstrate that a good sermon is the result of the growth-process of a single idea. The idea becomes the substance of a larger form and the sermon's strength depends far more on a great idea clearly stated than on a trite notion cleverly constructed.
