Design for Preaching
The field of homiletics soars beyond its traditional stereotype in this unusual book, and we come to see a good sermon as something that grows rather than as something pounded together. The author even avoids the standard terminology, such as structure and outline (he speaks of design and sketch in his effort to demonstrate that a good sermon is the result of the growth-process of a single idea. The idea becomes the substance of a larger form and the sermon's strength depends far more on a great idea clearly stated than on a trite notion cleverly constructed. This is a strictly new approach to homiletics at the least as far as books are concerned.
