Sources of Japanese Tradition (Vol.II)
Here, in the second volume of sources of Japanese Tradition, the editors bring together translations that reflected Japanese thought in the world today. Modern movements such as liberalism, nationalism, and socialism are presented. The selections deal not only with with religious and philosophical speculations but with political, economic, and aesthetic questions as well. Appearing are such figures as Fukazawa Yukichi, pioneer of Westernization in the nineteenth century; Kawakami Hajime, Gospel-quoting Marxist; and Nishida Kitaro, a leading philosopher of the twentieth century. The volume consist of translations from Japanese sources, made especially for this work or taken from other published sources, in addition to extensive introductory essays and commentary to assist the reader in understanding their historical setting and significance.
