A New Millennium from Dialogue to Reconciliation: Christian and Jewish Reflections
The new Christian millennium might be a milestone in world history as well as for the Christian-Jewish relationship. People will look with nostalgia, happiness or sadness and reckoning upon the last millennium, and very specially the last 50 years. It has been a time of pain and sadness for the Jewish people, because of the scourge of anti-Semitism that resulted in the Holocaust. It has also been a time of hope and renewal, the creation of the State of Israel, as well as the spiritual and religious creativity of Jewish communities in the United States and all over the world. It has also been a time of reckoning and renewal for Christianity as experienced by Vatican Council II and the soul searching of Christian denominations. The last 50 years have indeed been a preparation for the coming of the new millennium, a new hopeful time of peace, peace in the Middle East, and peace in the world.
