Duet or Duel? Theology and Science in a Postmodern World
How can theology and science engage in dialogue given the pluralism and radical fragmentation of knowledge normally associated with postmodern thought? Is it possible for theology to move away from its modernist position in which scientific rationally is invariably opposed to religious faith as a privatized form of subjective experience and opinion? Van Huyssteen searches for an epistemology that can bring theology and science into a productive relationship. He discusses at length the very different views of Stephen Hawking and Paul Davies and asks what it might mean that we human beings seem to carry the spark of rationality that provides the key to our understanding the universe.
