Education and Faith in an Open Society
How can schools contribute to the spiritual development of pupils without assuming from the outset that one particular view is the correct one? Are state, school and church still related to cach other as they were last century? If not, surely this raises basic questions about the treatment of religious and moral education in schools? Such questions are the focus of lively debate in today's changing society. They cannot be answered fairly by appeals to history, nor by the claims of a majority religion. In this book the author argues that the proper context for discussing such issues is that provided by an examination of the nature of the education and the nature of faith within an open society. He offers a perspective which will provide a basis for cooperation in such important matters between people of good will, whether religious believers or non-believers.
