Today people abroad still know little or nothing about freedom of conscience and the status of religion in the USSR and what they do know is quite often incorrect and contrary to fact. I have often figures 266 people representing various Christian denominations visited the Soviet Union. The trip was arranged by the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA. The members of the delegation visited dozens of Soviet cities and towns, met with religious and public figures, were present at religious services and became acquainted with various aspects of life in the USSR.
