Encyclopedia of Nationalism
Snyder offers about 250 informative, readable discussions of ideas, movements, and individuals associated with nationalism, a complex, multifaceted topic. The alphabetically arranged items are usually followed by bibliographies but sometimes by cross-references to related items that do have bibliographies. Because this unique work provides many more entries and much more discussion on nationalism than the various dictionaries on American government and politics commonly used in academe, it should be particularly useful to students and professionals in international relations, political theory, and political history. Although the general reader might find an occasional discussion especially interesting (such as the evidence of nationalism in the Grimm fairy tales), this first-rate reference book is probably too specialized to have broad appeal. Recommended for academic and larger public libraries.
