Yves Congar, a French Dominican friar, is one of the leading theologians of the present century, with a particularly strange sense of history and tradition. His influence was especially notable at the Second Vatican Council, which he attended as a theological adviser. The Council's documents reflect many of his preoccupations and ideas. His writing output has been prodigious, and many of his numerous books and articles have been translated into many languages throughout the world.
