Yves Congar
Yves Congar, a French Dominican friar, is one of the leading theologians of the present century, with a particularly strange sense of history and tradition. His influence was especially notable at the Second Vatican Council, which he attended as a theological adviser. The Council's documents reflect many of his preoccupations and ideas. His writing output has been prodigious, and many of his numerous books and articles have been translated into many languages throughout the world. This book is the first survey of Congar's work since 1967. As they unfold, its chapters considers: Congar's life; his work as a whole; his fundamental theology; his doctrine of the Church; Congar as an ecumenist; Congar as a theologian of the Holy Spirit; Congar as a Church reformer; Congar as an historian of theology. Finally, an attempt is made to assess his overall significance and the nature of the model he offers to Catholic theologians today.
