Study questions (Opportunities for Further Study) at the end of each chapter direct students to study specific areas in greater depth. The book is divided into four parts. Part I explains the importance of schools for young children, outlines the types of schools available, and discusses why these facilities are in such great demand. Attention is given to the need for considering child growth and development in planning for young children. Part II describes the importance of play in children's learning and the ways teachers can select and arrange materials and equipment to enhance this learning. Longrange, weekly and daily planning are discussed. Part III focuses on what children learn and, for purposes of study, is divided into chapters concerning the language arts, mathematics, science, the social studies and aesthetics. The importance of parent teacher relationships and teacher as a continually growing professional are considered in Part IV.
