Essays on John
C.K. Barret's essays on John 'are not all as widely known as they deserve to be', writers Professor Graham Stanton in the Journal for the Study of the New Testament; 'they should be consulted by all serious students of the gospel'. With the publication of this volume, a collection of Professor Barret's Johannine essays is now available. They develop themes treated only slightly, or not all, in his monumental Commentary on St John's Gospel (second edition 1978). Nine deal directly with specific aspects of the Fourth Gospel (with an occasional glance at the Johannine Epistles); the remaining one is devoted to Ignatius of Antioch, whose thought is related to John's. As many as six of the essays are appearing in English for the first time, and all reflect the dedicated scholarship and theological concern which are the hallmarks of Professor Barret's work.
