Twentieth-Century Religious Thought
It is twenty-five years now since this book was first written as a guide to students through the tangled maze of religious thought in the modern period. In particular, it was concerned with the interaction between philosophy and theology. Constantly in demand, it has already been updated twice. This third revision is the most extensive so far. Most of the new material comes at the end and seeks to do justice to the developments of the past three decades. Subjects not previously covered include transcendental Thomism, the renewal of Catholic theology, post existentialist theology and philosophy, neo Marxism and liberation theology, black theology and indigenous theology, feminist theology, and modern theology in the English speaking countries. Ranging from Lonergan through Ricoeur and Habermas to Gutierrez, James Cone, Rosemary Ruether and John Robinson, the individuals discussed provide a roll-call of the theologians of our time.
