To Work and to Love: A Theology of Creation

The theme of this provocative study is that God created the world our of a desire for relatedness, and that as a result, we, together with God, are responsible for the fate of the world and the human community. Soelle contends that through work and love we collaborate with God in creation. Critiquing both unemployment and the dehumanizing nature of most work in capitalistic societies, she offers her own vision of work one that gives priority to our self-expression, social relatedness and reconciliation with nature. She also calls to us to embrace a love that is characterized by ecstasy, trust, wholeness and solidarity a love that will fulfill our search for meaning and communion.
